Alamosa County announces Bright Future Scholarship winners

Kayleigh Garcia and Joaquin Salinas have been named recipients of the Bright Future Scholarship, according to an announcement from Alamosa County. Kayleigh Garcia attends Adams State University, where she has achieved a 3.87 GPA and is on the Vice President’s Honor Roll. She serves as the only student member of the Student Success Equity Initiative, a committee that includes university leadership and faculty. Her responsibilities involve contributing to discussions on strategies for student success and equity.

Joaquin Salinas maintains a 3.9 GPA at CU Boulder, earning placement on the Dean’s List each semester. He volunteers as a DJ for CU Boulder’s radio station, hosting its first hip hop show. Salinas is also active in “United Mexican American Students (UMAS) y Mecha.” He majors in media production with a minor in film. In January 2025, he released his first documentary titled “Us (…) Them,” which explores his experience with de facto segregation during middle school. In April 2025, he published a creative non-fiction story called “Somos Mas Americanos” in Hindsight magazine.
