The Archuleta County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved a financial contribution to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for the year 2025.
A statement from the board noted, “In any community, EMS is essential. But in a rural community like Archuleta County, it can truly be a matter of life and death.”
The announcement highlighted that while EMS workers are not classified as essential services at the federal level, their role remains critical, especially in areas with longer hospital transport times. The board explained that in urban settings, ambulance transport to hospitals typically takes between three and five minutes. However, in rural regions such as Archuleta County, this duration can extend from 20 to 45 minutes.
“This is why supporting EMS matters,” the board stated.
The commissioners also expressed gratitude toward local first responders: “Thank you to our First Responders for your dedication, service, and commitment to our community.”
