San Miguel County issued the following announcement on Sept. 10.
The Telluride Fire Protection District will be moving the Galloping Goose #4 train to Ridgway for the winter on Tuesday, September 15, between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.
The train takes a beating up here in the winter and gets buried in the snow so it will be moved to Ridgway where it can be protected under their train museum’s awning cover. The Galloping Goose #4 will also have its cab repainted and restored in addition to having some mechanical work done. It also needs to exercise and run to benefit its Pierce Arrow engine.
It will return to Telluride prior to Memorial Day weekend.
