DURANGO SCHOOL DISTRICT: Durango High School Cohort to Quarantine

Cdc coronavirus 1000

Durango School District issued the following announcement on Oct. 19.

On October 19, 9-R was notified by San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) that an individual at DHS is currently being evaluated for COVID-19 who was in close contact with another individual who tested positive for COVID-19. The school and the district are working proactively with the SJBPH to make the appropriate notifications and next steps for those who may have been in close contact with this individual.

While the individual’s privacy is protected by law, those students and/or staff members who were in direct contact with the cohort have been contacted. The incident is isolated to a single cohort at the school at this time, and that cohort will move to our remote learning platform during the quarantine time. Please note that this was not your students’ cohort, as those affected have been contacted separately; but we wanted all families in the district to be aware of the situation. The school remains open for in-person and blended learning for the unaffected cohorts.

Again, no other 9-R schools or cohorts are affected.

We are in contact with the SJBPH team, and are implementing our response plan that was created in the event of this scenario.

The 3 W’s of 9-R schools were created to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and it is critically important all students and staff follow the guidelines:

  • Wear a Mask
  • Wash Your Hands
  • Watch Your Distance
It is also important that all of our families monitor the health of all members and make sure that anyone who is feeling ill STAYS HOME.

The school is commended for handling this situation according to all the guidelines of the 9-R Process Map for Symptomatic Cases. Following the guidelines in our Return to Learn 9-R plan, the student was immediately isolated and went home that same day. In an abundance of caution, we will conduct additional cleaning in the affected area to ensure our disinfecting techniques will address any additional concerns.

Please remember to socially distance and abide by the state order to wear a face mask.  All of us need to be vigilant and highly disciplined so that we can continue to operate as close to normal as possible and keep our school safe and open.
