MONTEZUMA COUNTY: Election thoughts for Montezuma County

Vote button 1000

Montezuma County issued the following announcement on Oct. 18.

By now most ballots have arrived to a good portion of voters. As they continue to trickle in, I want to convey a few thoughts to you.

1) This is the most important election. If you haven't received your ballot, Don't panic! If you don't receive a ballot, early voting starts Monday at the clerk's office. Check your registration at www.govotecolorado.gov

2) Read your instructions. The instructions have where to vote, times you can vote, and what time, day and location of the 24 hour drop boxes open. (Reminder: The official Cox Corner ballot drop box is not included in your instructions because we had just opened it last week)

Secrecy sleeve... the instructions are your secrecy sleeve. If you forget to put your ballot into the secrecy sleeve it will still be counted.

3) There is no difference of how a ballot is processed or counted. Mail ballots and in person ballots are the exact same. They will be given to the same Election Judges, combined together, and all scanned at the same time. No one can tell the difference between a mail ballot or in person ballot.

4) Regardless of how you get the ballot to the Clerks office, your vote will be counted. If you mail it back leave plenty of time for delivery. If you don't trust the post office, drop it in a 24 hour video surveillance drop box, if you don't trust a 24 hour box, drop it at the clerks office where the staff watch the box or at a voting center, and if you don't trust any of that vote in person. As long as my office gets your ballot and your signature is accepted, your votes will be counted.

5) and last update for all of you. If you make a mistake to your ballot. DO NOT PANIC! Just come to the office and get a replacement ballot. Things happen, pens bleed, coffee is spilt, my dog ate my ballot, etc. Your ballot can and will be replaced all you have to do is ask.

As always if you have questions call, mail, email, or come in person and talk with me.
