Mountain West Conference recently issued the following announcement.
BREMERTON, Wash. – Through 36 holes of the 2022 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship, Colorado State remains atop the team leaderboard as the Rams seek their first Conference championship since 2010.
Competing at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington, the Rams used a 14-under par 274 on Saturday to keep the same two-stroke lead they had entering the second round. San Diego State, which carded the best team score of the day at 15-under 273, is in second place.
Colorado State’s 22-under par 554 is tied for the second-lowest 36-hole score in Mountain West championship history. The Aztecs’ 273 on Saturday is tied for the fourth-lowest second-round score in championship history.
Rain overnight leading into Saturday morning made for soft greens, which all golfers took advantage of as 21 rounds of under-par golf were turned in.
Colorado State junior Connor Jones continues to hold the top spot on the individual leaderboard. Jones followed up his opening round 67 with a six-under 66 on Saturday. The native of Westminster, Colorado, tallied four birdies on the front nine and another four on the back nine, on his way to a 36-hole score of 11-under 133. The 133 is tied for second-lowest two-round score in MW tournament history.
Nevada senior Trey Davis and San Diego State senior Youssef Guezzale are tied for second place, just two strokes behind Jones, sitting at eight-under par for the tournament.
Guezzale tied Jones for the best score of the day, using seven birdies, including three over the final five holes, to post a six-under 66.
The average score for the first two rounds of the tournament was 73.55.
