Noah Johnson - SCAC Character & Community

Noah Johnson, a senior on the men's soccer team from Castle Rock, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning December 19.

Johnson was an anchor of the defense for the Tigers and a big part of the team's success during his four years at the school. He was an honorable mention all-SCAC selection and helped Colorado College to the NCAA Division III Tournament as a freshman, but will never forget his final game as a Tiger at Stewart Field.

"My favorite memory was on Senior Day and Coach Scott (Palguta) subbed off all the seniors," Johnson said. "To look up at the scoreboard and see that we were winning, then look across the bench and see some of my best friends and my teammates next to me was one of the coolest memories I have."

The three-time team captain is majoring in molecular biology at Colorado College. This past summer he was a research assistant for the chair of the molecular biology department. His project was to classify and better understand a gene called NBL1, a protein that has a homologue in humans that is implicated in alzheimers disease. After taking a year off following his graduation next May, he is hoping to become a research technician at a larger university, then apply for graduate school for molecular biology.

Johnson has been heavily involved with the school's Priddy trips, which provides CC's incoming students an exciting New Student program with a four-day Orientation Trip experience. He also helped found a Morgan's Message program on campus, a support group for student-athletes regarding mental health.

"I wanted to provide a dedicated space on campus to sit down and actually address mental health issues," Johnson said. "I was also the only male in Morgan's Message for the first two years and now we have more than 15. It is really cool to see that positive impact and change over the past year."
