Women's lacrosse gears up for final neutral site game of the season

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team is on neutral turf for the third time this season with a Saturday afternoon nonconference game against Rockhurst University in Pueblo, Colorado. Live stats will be available for Saturday's game, but due to conflicting home events at CSU Pueblo there will be no live video provided.

Last Time Out
The Skyhawks were on the losing end of a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games this past week. First, the team dropped a 19-7 game to No. 24 Colorado Mesa University. Senior Autumn Rymerson led the team with two goals while junior Ellie Martinez paced the squad in points after a one-goal, two-assist outing. Junior Haley Dostie recorded one goal and one assist while junior Nina Polk and freshmen Zoi Delgado and Valerie Garcia each chipped in one goal. Senior Makena Carter led all players with four groundballs, followed by three from freshman Samantha Rodgers. The team picked up 10 caused turnovers.

Two days later, Fort Lewis took the field in Salt Lake City to close out the road trip against Westminster College. In the 19-11 loss, the Skyhawks were outshot 38-22, including a 32-20 edge in shots on goal. Fort Lewis was 17-of-20 on clear attempts for the contest. The Griffins earned 20 ground balls compared to 10 for the Skyhawks.

Dostie's seven goals led all players, and the Skyhawks found goals from four additional players. Freshman Sydney Tannaci picked up her first career goal in the loss. Freshman Samantha Rodgers led the team with two caused turnovers to go along with two ground balls. Sophomore Mikki Brown also picked up two ground balls to bring her season total to six. Senior goalkeeper Averi Basso had a season-high 13 saves on a season-high 38 shots faced.

Scouting Rockhurst University
The Hawks enter the week with a 4-2 record, including wins over Northern Michigan (16-9), UCCS (18-7), and McKendree University (10-7). Last week, Rockhurst dropped a 17-7 decision to Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction. The team was 10-7 overall last season with a 4-4 road record.

This season, the Hawks are outscoring their opponents 70-62 with a shots-on-goal percentage of 69.7. They have totaled 113 ground balls, 61 caused turnovers, and 92 draw controls through six games. Logan Derosia leads the team with 15 goals, followed by the team's points leader in Dani Mabry with 14 goals and seven assists. Rockhurst has seen multiple goals from eight additional players. Mackenzie Blair leads the team with 18 ground balls while Audrey Titzer paces the group with 13 caused turnovers. Christine Corbin has 31 draw controls to her credit. Goalkeepers have split time this season with Sydney Shindler and Madeline Morrison each playing for 170+ minutes. Shindler leads the way with 30 saves and a 9.4 goals-against average.

Fort Lewis leads the all-time series with five wins and two losses, but last year's meeting went to Rockhurst in a 19-2 final. The Skyhawks were outshot 48-14 for the game. Fort Lewis did outshoot the opposition 7-5 in the third quarter, but Rockhurst still managed a 3-1 goals advantage. Diamond Velasco and Caprietta Abbadessa each chipped in a goal. Maren Clark led the team with four ground balls while Rebecca Kiyokawa picked up two ground balls and a caused turnover to add to her stat line. Averi Basso had 17 saves on the day.

Inside the Skyhawks' Stats
Fort Lewis is averaging 18.8 shots per game while totaling 31 goals thus far. The team owns a 74.7 shots-on-goal percentage versus a 76.3 percentage for their opponents. The Skyhawks have come away with 77 ground balls versus 109 for the opposition.

Individually, Dostie leads the team with 13 goals to go along with one assist. Her 3.25 goals per game average rank fourth in the conference. Martinez follows with five goals while three additional players have two goals to their credit. Carter leads the team with nine ground balls and three caused turnovers. Rymerson is the leader in draw controls with nine through four games. Basso ranks second in the conference with 11.25 saves per game and a saves percentage of 43.7.

Fort Lewis will hit the road for its Spring Break trip to Arizona next week. The Skyhawks will play three games against Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, and Arizona State University from March 24-26.
