A new photography exhibit highlighting Colorado’s Scenic and Historic Byways will be on display at the Durango Welcome Center, located at 802 Main Ave., from May 5 through Aug. 3, according to a May 4 announcement.
The exhibit aims to showcase the beauty and diversity of Colorado’s landscapes while emphasizing the importance of its culturally significant routes. Visitors will have an opportunity to view images representing all 26 of Colorado’s designated scenic byways.
A public opening reception is scheduled for Friday, May 8, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The collection features a total of 52 photographs, with each byway submitting images that highlight its unique character and stories found along their corridors. Grace Vale, Durango Welcome Center Manager, said: “We invite visitors and locals alike to experience the breathtaking beauty and rich heritage of Colorado’s most scenic routes through a captivating visual journey. This exhibit showcases a stunning collection of photographs highlighting the diverse landscapes, historic landmarks, and cultural treasures along Colorado’s renowned scenic and historic byways.” Vale also said: “The exhibit offers a unique opportunity to see Colorado through the lens of talented photographers who have captured the essence of these unforgettable routes.”
Among the featured byways are two in Southwest Colorado: The Tracks Across Borders Scenic Byway and the San Juan Skyway Byway—the largest scenic byway in Colorado.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Colorado Department of Transportation. Organizers say this partnership helped bring together this comprehensive showcase for visitors interested in exploring more about Durango or planning trips along these routes.
